In a world where products, and even companies, come and go, it’s pretty amazing to see one celebrate 100 years in business. That’s exactly what Citroën is doing in 2019, celebrating 100 years of building automobiles. We’re working with one of our most enthusiastic clubs, Citroëns @ Carlisle, to create an amazing celebration of this innovative brand.
The party will include the following:
• 100 Years of Citroën Automobiles
• Building Y hosts a Featured Vehicle Display and other Citroën-related displays
• Large tent between Buildings T & Y host additional featured vehicles, seminars and Citroën clubs from the U.S.A. and Canada
• 100-Year Birthday Celebration on Saturday with birthday cake (open to everyone)
• Saturday hosts a parade of Citroën vehicles in chronological order
• Citroën-related guests
• Brad Nauss’ 1950 Citroën Traction Avant 11BL which has been on display at EVERY Carlisle Import show since the first one in 1986
Citroën was founded by its namesake, André Citroën, in 1919 with the goal of building an affordable car for the people of France. Citroën already had experience in the automotive industry since he took over the Mors automobile company in 1913. In his first year at Mors, Citroën increased output. When the war broke out in 1914, production transitioned to support the war effort.
In 1919, Citroën began to produce his own automobiles using mass production assembly line techniques that he borrowed from Henry Ford. Citroën vehicles were the first to be mass produced in France resulting in 100 units per day. That first vehicle was the 10 HP Type A and more than 24,000 were produced. Although Citroën borrowed heavily from Ford with its production methods and even the design of that first car, the company actually introduced numerous innovations that are still in use today.
The Citroën Traction Avant pioneered such advancements as unibody construction, front-wheel drive and four-wheel independent suspension in a mass produced vehicle. All of these features give the modern car more in common with the Citroën than the Model T. The first production car with modern disc brakes was also built by Citroën. As proof of the viability of these developments, the Citroën 2CV remained nearly unchanged from 1948 through 1990.

The Import & Performance Nationals Race Car Paddock has been an annual highlight area of the event for several years and the vehicles are treated as a Featured Vehicle Display. That means you can display your race car at no charge! The Race Car Paddock is reserved exclusively for vehicles that are set up for racing including road racers and autocross to drag and rally cars and more. See the cars as part of a true garage display within the pavilions on the east side of the grounds.
This display is hosted each year by our friends at the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association but all true race vehicles are welcome to apply. For those that have the urge to get some track time in during the event, you can do so by taking a few laps on our onsite autocross. Made popular by video games like Forza, Drift Limbo will take over the drift course on Saturday afternoon of event weekend. Back by popular demand, this competition incorporates the skill of the driver to not only control the car but to also drift through a set window of space. The way drift limbo works is two cones will be setup as a window to drift through. Each competitor will have to drift through the window. As the competition rounds progress the window will slowly get narrower until a winner is crowned. A competitor must be registered for the non-judged showfield at minimum and have completed the necessary registration and tech through our friends at NICO Club at least one hour prior to this activity's start.
Join us at the autocross track Saturday afternoon (time TBA) for the fun.
Congratulations to our 2018 winner, Dave Roberts and his 1993 BMW 325IS.

Ready, set, go! The Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals feature an EXPANDED exhaust contest, meaning more cars and more fun! Car owners have the chance to showcase just what their car sounds like in a standalone environment. Now, you don’t have to rev your engine just to turn heads. On Friday and Saturday of event weekend all eyes will be on you and your car. Don't miss this cool competition as cars will start in a line on the east side of the grounds near the pavilion and roar as they accelerate up the hill to the north side of the grounds.
This time of rapid acceleration in the awesomely modified IPN show cars creates an unmistakable sound that will draw guests from across the grounds. It’s free to participate and it doesn’t matter what you put into the competition. This will also be judged but take note, the best overall sound will take home the prize, not necessarily the loudest. If it has an engine and can go, it’s eligible! Sign up at guest services throughout the weekend and have some fun on Friday and Saturday. Please note, you MUST be registered on the Showfield to be eligible to participate.
The contest consists of two rounds, with each round hosting 20 cars. You must sign up in Guest Services prior to each round. Cars will be accepted for sign-up on a first come first served basis and we do expect each round to be filled so please sign up early. The qualifying round will take place on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and second qualifying round will begin on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. From the two rounds we will select approximately 20 cars to move on to the finale on Saturday Afternoon. The list of who qualified for the finale will be posted at Noon on Saturday at the Guest Services Building near the Grandstand. The finale will then begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. You must participate in a qualifying round to have a chance to participate in the finale!
Exhaust Contest Schedule:
8 a.m. – Qualifying Round Signups begin in Guest Services until full.
4 a.m. – Qualifying Round #1 at the Exhaust Contest Area near Gate 6.
10 a.m. – Qualifying Round #2 at the Exhaust Contest Area near Gate 6.
Noon – Exhaust Contest Finale List posted at Guest Services.
2:30 p.m. – Exhaust Contest Finale near Gate 6.
Good luck and let's have some fun at Carlisle in May!

With the lowest limbo, we’re taking a cue from the Caribbean on how we will determine the lowest car or truck at the show.
Instead of measuring from the driver door or the roof, we figure the best way to see who is lowest is to make them limbo. We will have a vehicle limbo bar set-up in multiple increments. Each car or truck must make their way under the bar without smoking tires and without knocking the limbo bar over. The last vehicle not to knock off the limbo bar wins!
Pre-registration is required at Guest Services. A show sticker (i.e. registered for vending or showfield), driver’s license and proof of insurance are required. The activity takes place Saturday.
Congratulations to our 2018 low car limbo top 3.

Do you want to let thousands of enthusiasts know what you are selling in your car corral space at Carlisle? It doesn’t matter what show you’re attending, if you’ve purchased a car corral spot, we’ve got a cool opportunity for you. Carlisle Events is offering you additional FREE exposure via our social media pages (Facebook and Twitter) to promote your presence at Carlisle.
The process is simple but does come with a few rules. First, e-mail no more than four (4) photos of your car to SocialShowroom@CarlisleEvents.com. When you do, please be sure to tell us your name, vendor number, show or shows that you’ve bought car corral space for and the important details about your vehicle that you’re trying to sell. In addition, please share with us your car corral space number. If you aren’t sure of it, we’ll look it up for you. This way, when we post the photos, we can encourage guests to visit your space during the event.
Once we’ve confirmed everything matches up, we’ll post your photos. Photos will be posted only once by Carlisle Events and will ultimately end up in a photo gallery dedicated to the Social Media Showroom. Only one post per registered space though. That means if you own one car corral spot, you can share one set of photos. If you have secured two car corral spots, you can share two sets of photos, three spots/three sets of photos and so on. Again, you MUST be a registered car corral participant to take advantage of this offer and photos will be posted only on the show page related to your purchase and the general Carlisle Events Facebook page. Photos will be posted once a week in an album specific to this program and will ONLY be posted within a 14 day window prior to the show.
Thank you for your support and good luck selling your ride via the additional exposure provided by the Carlisle Events Social Media Showroom.
