Corvettes at Carlisle Celebrates History/Carlisle Blue in 2012
Monday, August 20, 2012
The 2012 Corvettes at Carlisle event, August 24-26 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, will do what it does best, embrace history and celebrate the future, all as part of the Corvette America Fun Field. This year, the celebrations will include one final hurrah for the Carlisle Blue Metallic Corvette, a “final wrap” on the 2011 event and unique displays that make the event the best of its type worldwide.
In August of 2011, some strange occurrences of Mother Nature conspired to make Corvettes at Carlisle one for the ages. The week began with an earthquake and ended with a hurricane. Though in between, the event itself was once again the talk of the town, the final day, including the awards parade, was a wash. Because Hurricane Irene had her way with enthusiasts and vendors alike, 2012 will feature an awards parade centered specifically on those who won an award in 2011, but were unable to be properly recognized. The awards gathering will take place Friday, August 24.
Another carry over from 2011 will be the continued celebration of the Carlisle Blue Metallic Corvette and its historical significance to America’s Automotive Hometown. Production on all 2012 Corvettes came to a halt in May and Carlisle Blue is no longer available, but expect a handful of them onsite. In addition, any owner of a Carlisle Blue Corvette will be granted free Fun Field access for not only the weekend, but for the life of their car.
Along with the onsite awards parade, another parade will take place – the Downtown Corvette Parade and Party. This popular event sees about 400 Corvettes line the square of Carlisle for a one-of-a-kind experience that enthusiasts, young and old will enjoy. The parade features shopping, food, live music and a historical timeline of GM’s best. Parade attendees will see Corvettes from the early ‘50s through 2013 models.
Further components of the weekend include autocross, Chip’s Choice Invitational Display featuring the “Best of the Big Blocks,” a 50-year anniversary display of 1962s, industry guests, engineers behind the brand, onsite installations, a silent auction and so much more. 2012 will also be the year of the Corvette Club. With limited space on grounds, Carlisle Events is making special space available just for clubs. The space will provide tent coverage and 12’x12’ areas for club displays, features and networking.
Back again in 2012 will be a pair of automotive minds that are guaranteed to draw a crowd. Join Corvette Technicians Paul Koerner and Tiffany Rose of Corvettemechanic.com as they host multiple diagnostic sessions. The sessions will benefit both the car owner and the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation. If you own a 1997 to modern day Corvette, Paul and Tiffany have the cure to what ails you, or more specifically your ride.
Additional aspects of Corvettes at Carlisle include the car corral and swap meet, beauty contest, giveaway and much more. Families will enjoy Corvettes at Carlisle too with the Women’s Oasis and Kids at Carlisle – two automotive alternatives designed to appeal to all ages and genders of enthusiasts.
At Corvettes at Carlisle more than 5,000 cars covering all eras of production will converge on the Carlisle Fairgrounds and thousands of attendees will take part in an event that the entire family can enjoy. Corvettes at Carlisle is one of the largest and most fun-filled events of its kind in the world and whether you spend a few hours or the entire weekend in Carlisle, you will enjoy special Corvette displays and anniversaries featuring concept, performance and historically significant vehicles that are second to none.
