Thousands Enjoy First Ever Bloomsburg Nationals

Collector Cars and Enthusiasts Converged on Columbia County

Thursday, August 16, 2012

2012 has been the year of expansion for Carlisle Events. This past weekend, August 10-12, marked a company first; the first time a show was held within the Keystone State at a location other than the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. The Bloomsburg Nationals powered by Carlisle Events took place at the newly revamped Bloomsburg Fairgrounds in Columbia County and saw a few thousand enthusiasts come on grounds to enjoy over 100 years of automotive history, family fun, a Manufactures Midway, live entertainment and so much more.

Festivities launched Thursday with a kick-off party at nearby Quaker Steak & Lube where from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., enthusiasts and diners alike enjoyed music and a live broadcast from Y106.5 FM, a lot filled with cars as part of a cruise-in and great food from “The Lube.” In addition, show going hopefuls were able to register their prized rides, avoiding day of event lines and getting a jump on the weekend excitement.

Friday’s fun was slowed a bit by weather, but Mother Nature didn’t keep people away. Gates opened promptly at 8 a.m. and multiple car clubs cruised in to assure themselves a spot on the Fun Field. In addition, indoor displays like the “Best of Carlisle” and the Women’s Oasis allowed everyone to stay dry, experience the cars and prepare themselves for the remainder of the weekend. Before the day concluded, however; there was a downtown Bloomsburg gridlock parade and street party. With cars back onsite later in the day, Ms. Bloomsburg 2012 was named and following that competition, Mike Miller and his bull riding exhibition took place in front of a lively crowd at the main stage.

Clouds moved out and the sun, people and cars moved in Saturday as the event sped forward at a fever pitch. Over 700 cars adorned the grounds as part of the inaugural event and day two attendees were treated to a bevy of activities. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the Young’s Funny Farm display as well as magic by Eddie Ray. Further, automotive competitions excited the crowds all day with activities like teeter totter, burnouts, flame throwing, slow drags, muffler rapping and a messy, yet exciting wing eating contest sponsored by Quaker Steak & Lube. Live music was also the theme of Saturday as Reading, Pennsylvania based Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods played the Quaker Steak & Lube band shell stage, while the Bloomsburg Fair Association presented Mandy Barnett and Michael Twitty.

Sunday wrapped the merriment with a group discussion featuring event participants, Lance and Bill Miller of Carlisle Events as well as Paul Reichart of the Bloomsburg Fair Association. Also on Sunday, the awards parade saw more than 60 Celebrity Choice Awards issued, with many car owners going home happy and with fond memories of a special weekend in Bloomsburg.

Next year’s event is already the calendar for Carlisle and planning is already underway. The 2013 Bloomsburg Nationals powered by Carlisle Events returns to Columbia County from August 9-11.
