Performance & Style 2011 Thrills Enthusiasts
Industry Guests, Award Winners and Charity Events Please Thousands
Monday, May 16, 2011
It was a knockdown, drag out fight with Mother Nature, but in the end, everyone had their role in an overall fantastic weekend. Performance & Style 2011 went on, rain and shine. Thousands in attendance discovered the world of tuners, modern musclecars, stance Euros, VIP sedans and much more. In addition to the cars, there were industry guests, charity events, stunt shows and drifting demonstrations.
Saturday marked the official start of the 15th anniversary event and featured buildings and a showfield full of unique displays, beauty of varying types, including cars, a bikini car wash and the crowning of Miss. Carlisle. In addition to the sights, there were also sounds. The ICE house featured customized rides with the hottest new trends in car audio and entertainment.
Also featured on Saturday was a stunning pair of exhibitions as the StarBoyz and Vaughn Gittin Jr. impressed many during their one time only “stunt-off” at the NICO autocross track. Earlier in the day Gittin Jr. spent hours signing autographs for throngs of fans while the StarBoyz put on a pair of solo exhibitions. In each instance, crowds gathered to be part of the experience.
Saturday night saw the sun go down and the neon light up. LEDGlow sponsored a lighting contest while half a dozen cars spun their wheels, cranked their engines and filled the air with tire smoke for the ever popular burnout competition. Following an audience vote, a Big Block 1957 Chevy was declared the winner. Also as part of the late Saturday fun, a new Miss. Carlisle was named with Carlisle resident Amanda Lawson taking the title.
On Sunday, drifting and autocross excitement were back in action on the NICO autocross track. Along with those fun activities came dyno tests and for the second consecutive day, the Raretoy.com girls participated in a charity car wash with proceeds benefiting the Harrisburg Area Humane Society. At 4 p.m., awards were given for multiple categories of automotive excellence. The parked-by-class showfield featured more than 50 winners, including the overall best in show award, taken home by Kenny Vinces and his 1992 Honda Civic SIR2. As part of the annual club challenge for most cars registered, NICO took first, with IHATESTICKERS.com and CNYSUBURUS.com placing second and third respectively. Nuthin’ Fancy earned the Coolest Club award and Auto Concepts Elite took the best of Carlisle Team award.
"The event this year was really awesome,” noted event manager Patrick Lemay. “We had some tough weather to deal with but even with that, a ton of amazing cars braved the conditions. In addition to the incredible attendance, I was impressed with the quality of cars for this market of the car hobby. It gets better each year for Performance & Style.” Lemay added that “we were so happy to have Formula Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. at the event. He put on an amazing show in his RTR Ford Mustang and met with and signed autographs for hundreds fans. All in all the show proved that the Import tuner/modern custom car scene, though evolved, is alive and well in Carlisle!"
Performance & Style returns May 12-13, 2012 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds with a fresh and exciting schedule. Most activities are still to be determined, however; updates and additions will frequently be posted to www.carlisleevents.com.
